A développé is a fundamental ballet movement in which the dancer draws the working foot up the supporting leg to retiré (passé) before smoothly extending the leg into the air to the front, side, or back.
The movement emphasises control, strength, balance, and fluidity, with the leg unfolding gracefully while maintaining correct alignment and turnout.
An arabesque is one of the fundamental positions in ballet. In it, the dancer stands on one leg (the supporting leg) while the other leg extends straight out behind the body, usually at a 90-degree angle or higher, with the torso held upright or tilted slightly forward.
